Best dining so far in San Diego area. The food was so good that I wish I could start all over again. I had Mahi Mahi with shiitake mushrooms, artichokes, grapes cut in slices, and the absolute best gnocchi I have ever tasted. It was absolutely totally completely delicioso. Nancy (the other contractor on an expense account) had boneless ribs over sweet potatoes with a special thick tomato/barbecue sauce on top and a sweet Cabernet sauce under the whole thing. I know I’m missing ingredients in both our dishes but you probably get the general idea. We sat outside overlooking the ocean with a heat lamp to keep us warm.

The waiter was one of the highlights of the meal. His name is Eric and he is a school teacher in his regular life…lucky kids to have this guy as your teacher. He is a total charmer and did not steer us wrong on a single dish. I would give him a 10 out of 10 points. The food gets a 10 out of 10 and the atmosphere gets a 10 out of 10. The lighting was a bit dim to read the menu but I have a flashlight app on my new iPhone so that wasn’t a problemo for me. Apple should hire me for an iPhone commercial: I can’t quit talking about mine.

I am going to start rating bathrooms too since I always seem to have a need to check them out. Nancy doesn’t have this interest (need) so she won’t be joining me in this rating. I might think this is because she’s younger than I except that this has always been an interest (need) of mine. So…the bathroom only gets a 6. Clean, but not happenin’; good mirrors, bright lights (worth an extra point) but no real zip and since it is two floors down in the more expensive sister restaurant I was expecting something special. However, the meal and service were so fabo I’m not deducting any points from my overall rating for this. The entire evening gets a 10!

By the way I have to mention that the Peter Lik art gallery is right across the street. Spectacular photography and that is his real name…I asked. More later on him.

Fabo view of San Diego with planes flying right through downtown. Lobster pot pie was delicious. Nancy loved the truffle mac ‘n cheese…not my fave. I think truffles smell and taste like an animal not a plant and maybe like an animal getting ready to do something personal with another animal. Definitely recommend the restaurant though. Nancy gives it a 10 out of 10. I’d give it a 9. Here’s the view.

This is a work in progress. I am painting my kitchen cupboards to remind me to vote with my dollar every day. Buy only items from companies I trust and wish to support. And then I just realized I don’t know who owns WordPress. Good thing I have my cupboards to remind me to look up this stuff!

My mother told me this story about a brusque doctor from her youth in the 1920′s:

A woman came to see the doctor and he told her she smelled bad and needed to wash. She earnestly told him that she did wash. She washed as far up as possible and she washed as far down as possible. The doctor pointed his finger at her and said “That’s it! Go home and wash Possible!” I LOVE this story.

I don’t know if we will be able to change the world with our politicians. But we might be able to change it if we buy only from socially conscious companies; buy only items with socially responsible packaging; buy only items with socially responsible production methods and socially responsible products. Can we change the world by voting with our dollar?

The following images were part of an art show created with junk found along a 60-mile stretch of the West Coast. It was displayed at the Marine Mammal Center, Fort Cronkhite, in the Marin Headlands.

OK, I know there are odder street fairs, but not many! I have a few more pictures posted on Flickr, but don’t go there if you are easily offended. The rest of my pictures are being posted on www.BayAreaBacksides.com because they are, guess what, backsides.

I helped hand out free condoms and literature for RAMP, a nonprofit organization that recycles AIDS medications to organizations in Zimbabwe, Chile and Honduras. No one that works for RAMP takes a salary, so every penny donated goes toward the cause, providing life-saving drugs to patients who otherwise have no access to them.
